SERBIA’S ECONOMIC GROWTH DID NOT SUFFER BECAUSE IT IS NOT IN THE EU
How much has not becoming a member of the EU affected Serbia’s economy? Turns out not at all.
Comparing apples to apples, let’s compare Serbia with Croatia. Some people like to compare Serbia to some other countries in Eastern Europe like Hungary and Czechia, but this isn’t a fair comparison, given the war in the Balkans in the 1990s. Wars are exceptionally costly on the economy, and it takes years to recovered from them. This is why Croatia is a very good comparison for Serbia, not the least because it is next to Serbia and used to be one country so have very comparable systems and culture.
